The most mundane tasks quickly become difficult to perform. It can hurt just to lift a glass, try to peel potatoes or move the computer mouse around. Usually, the pain is not constant either, but can instead appear as a searingly painful surprise every time the wrist or arm is strained ever so slightly.

"Tennis elbow" is the colloquial name for this condition, which occurs when a particular tendon attachment on the outside of the elbow is overused. "Lateral epicondylitis" is the medical term - which clarifies that it is the tendon attachment on the elbow's joint socket (epicondyle) that has become inflamed. There is also an obvious pain point right there.

Back on Track has a long history of developing therapeutic products designed to relieve, support and speed up recovery from problems in joints, tendons and muscles. Tennis elbow is a typical condition where our textile technology, Welltex®, can be of great benefit, through its ability to reflect the body's infrared energy (FIR) back into the tissues.

A searing pain, caused by sports or computer!

Tennis elbow can affect anyone, from those who exercise regularly to those who just happen to use their arm intensively. The condition can even occur due to poor ergonomics in front of the computer and poor working posture. It may then coexist with "mouse arm" and other desktop ailments that arise when the wrist is used to makes monotonous movements, in a static position, for prolonged periods of time.

It is enough to put just a little more stress on the tendon attachment than it can handle for tennis elbow to develop, and this can be achieved in many different ways. But it is definitely a type of pain that should be listened to.

Unlike osteoarthritis pain, which doesn't get better with rest - on the contrary - tennis elbow requires both relief and rest for the inflammation to subside. For the most part, that will also be all it takes. Tennis elbow has a good prognosis and usually heals on its own - as soon as the physical stress that caused the strain has ceased.

Acute or chronic phase? The curative measures are different

Sometimes, however, the inflammatory phase can turn into a chronic one, with persistent pain even though the inflammation has disappeared. In the chronic phase, changes have occurred in the structure and organisation of the tendon fibres as the body tries to quickly compensate for increased demands on the tendon attachment.

These long-term, persistent problems - now with a new cause - are not helped by neither rest nor anti-inflammatory drugs. Instead, an adapted exercise programme with gradually increasing loads may be the best strategy to relieve the pain and increase the likelihood of the tendon returning to its normal appearance and function.

A doctor or physiotherapist may need to find out what happened in the elbow and what stage of healing the tendon is in. This will determine which method will be truly beneficial and preferably conclusive and definitely cure the tennis elbow.

Welltex® can support you through both rest and training

Whatever it takes to get your tennis elbow back on track - rest or training - Welltex® is an excellent aid that can benefit and speed up your recovery.

The active ingredient is our therapeutic textile technology, giving our braces and supports their ability to reflect far infrared energy (FIR). The most well-known effect of FIR is that it stimulates circulation and increase local blood flow.

Our Welltex® technology is always the most important factor in all our supports and braces. We have several types of knitted tubular supports in more or less firm, elastic materials that are pulled over the affected joint and provide a pleasant feeling of compression. Welltex® will then exerts its positive influence both on the joint and on a good part of the soft tissues surrounding it.

Sometimes a specific design provides immediate relief for overstressed tissues or extra support for muscles, tendons and joints. Our latest weapon in the fight against tennis elbow is an easy-to-use and flexible epicondylitis buckle, whose design allows for targeted pressure on the epicondyle on the outside of the elbow.

Which is best for your elbow?

Our Tennis Elbow Strap provides a targeted, anatomically strategic support over the area that needs acute relief.
