However, what characterises running is what usually leads to the painful problem: prolonged, monotonous strain that causes a wide, strong band of connective tissue to rub and rub against the outer structures of the knee joint.
The good news is that the pain can be relieved and treated with offloading the knee, by stretching the ligaments and a more gentle exercise program that doesn't overstretch or overwork the knees.
Our knee braces and supports can favour recovery
Our knee braces are designed to envelop the knee joint to provide a greater sense of support and stability. They both support the knee and also work to promote blood flow in the area.
The materials are elastic with varying degrees of firmness and contain our Welltex® textile technology. This means that minerals are permanently fused into the threads of the textile material. The minerals are there to absorb and emit the body heat of the wearer in the form of infrared energy, which have a therapeutic effect on biological tissues and is often perceived as soothing and/or warming. Some knee braces also include additional supportive elements.
The "knee brace with buckle" is one of Back on Track's very first products. It is held firmly in place by an adjustable, elasticated hook & loop strap and has a flexible, supportive rails on either side of the knee. This functional and easy-to-use knee support has been sold for over two decades with unabated demand, and with no changes in either design or function. Nowadays our range is expanded to include both more flexible and more robust versions.
The "Physio 4-way stretch knee support", for example, is so thin that it can be worn under tight clothing. The sturdy "Per4mance CR Knee Brace" has an anatomical fit and is stabilised by CR rubber. Unlike the more flexible supports, it is made of a more rigid and robust material that holds tightly around the knee.
In short: Materials, design and technology will work together to offer the best possible condition for a speedy recovery.
Runner's knee can have several different causes
Pain on the outer side of the knee should be listened to. It often signifies that the iliotibial band is being subjected to more than it can handle - and that continued stress will make things even worse. However, the causes of the condition can vary. To alleviate the pain and also prevent it from recurring, you should try to both find and address these issues.
The fact is that the root problem that causes runner's knee can occur far from the site of the typical symptom. For example, the iliotibial band runs from the hip down the entire outside of the thigh. A misalignment in the hip can thus propagate through the tissues and manifest as a tight, chafing iliotibial band - right on the outside of the knee.
Exercising too intensely can strain connective tissue, tendons and ligaments that have not built strength at the same rate as the muscles. As muscles get stronger, the demands on surrounding tissue structures rapidly increases. If there is an imbalance between the strong muscles and their less developed support, joints may become unstable and unevenly loaded.
Our knee braces and supports with Welltex® have been shown to promote circulation and blood flow to the tissues and is often perceived to reduce tension in tendons and muscles - while providing stability, support and relief. They can therefore be helpful both during rehabilitation and during rehab exercises.
Our thin versions are flexible and comfortable enough to also be worn at night.
With such a knee brace, the recovery period can hopefully be shortened, so you can soon get back to running - without a runner's knee!
